Did you know that Spanish is the second most widely spoken and the third most studied language in the world?
Spanish is the romance language most widely spoken, in terms of number of speakers (more than 460 million native speakers), and number of countries where Spanish is the official language (21 in total).
Experts foresee that by 2050 there will be more than 530 million Spanish speakers, which means that over 10 percent of the global population will speak Spanish, turning into one of the three most important languages, along with English and Chinese.
The Spanish speaking population represents one of the outgrowing segments around the world, specially in the USA. This Spanish speaking segment is a large community that shares not only products and services, but also culture.
Many figures and statistics show the growing popularity of Spanish as a Second and Foreign Language. All of which have boosted people’s interest in studying Spanish, resulting in more than 21 million Spanish students worldwide.
We, at UCASAL Language Centre (CIU for its acronym in Spanish), offer you this university course, Spanish as a Second and Foreign Language, to learn two levels in one year (2x1 program), 100% online, and with a communicative language teaching approach.


play_arrowWhich are the aims of the course?


- To get to know the Spanish language, the `rioplatense´ (a Spanish language variety), and the Argentine culture.
- To master level A1 and A2 of Spanish as a Second and Foreign Language, based on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
- To master and certify the Elementary level in order to further study Spanish as a Second and Foreign Language - Intermediate level.

This course is aimed at those interested in learning Spanish as a Second and Foreign Language from scratch, or for those needing to certify this language elementary level. It has been custom-designed for non-Spanish speaking businessmen and higher education students.

play_arrow Who will be my teacher?

Mariana Domínguez


Holds a BA in Language and Literature issued by the National University of Mar del Plata, and postgraduate studies as Specialist in Spanish as a Second and Foreign Language Teaching by the National University of La Plata. She is also a Certificate of Spanish: Language and Use (CELU) Examiner, Setter and Item Writer at the Inter University Consortium for Teaching and Testing of Spanish as a Second and Foreign Language in Argentina (ELSE Consortium).
With a vast teaching experience in secondary and higher education, Mariana has taught Spanish as a Second and Foreign Language, Linguistics, Grammar, Reading, Writing and Speaking, Use of Spanish, Literature, and Spanish for the Deaf and Hearing-impaired.
Mariana has been part of research and extension university projects for the UNMdP, and a speaker at important conferences, seminars and conventions. She is the author of the review named `Maratón ELE: el libro de texto en el aula de español lengua extranjera´, and the article `La mirada del cronista latinoamericano en la Exposición Universal de París´, among others.
She participates in continuing education programs related to CELU, the proficiency test of Spanish as a Foreign Language, officially acknowledged by the Ministry of Education and by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship of Argentina.

A1 Users can introduce themselves and ask for directions. They can go to a restaurant and order food They can understand simple information and comments on travel blogs. They can write simple notes saying where they headed and when the will be back.
A2 They can take part in informal conversations and give siemple opinions on food or movies. They can ask for things and interact with other curstomers at the supermarket Eg.: Are you first in the queue? They can understand emails containing simple descriptions of people, events, ideas and opionions. They ccan write short articles for a free online encyclopaedia.

Graduates earn a diploma issued by the UCASAL Language Center (CIU), certifying the completion of the course and the language level of proficiency, based on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
